In line with NHS policy, patients are not registered with a specific Doctor. We encourage patients to see the same doctor for an ongoing medical problem to provide continuity of care; however, if that Doctor is not available, an alternative will be offered. Home visits are assigned taking account of the commitments of each doctor on that day.

Mr David O'ConnorIT ManagerModern general practice is far removed from the old appointment book and manual labour in receiving and recording data. A robust IT system is key to achieving best outcomes. David has a strong background in IT provision and may be able to assist patients with any issues relating to electronic access.
We have an excellent team of fully trained Receptionists and Medical Secretaries. They have a difficult job to do, with phone calls and enquiries from every direction. Occasionally, they may need to ask a few details. They have been trained to make these enquiries to judge the urgency of any medical matter and for us to help you in the most appropriate way. Any information will always be treated in confidence.
Please contact the surgery for an appointment with the community midwife once it has been established that you are pregnant. There is no need to see the GP first unless there are health concerns affecting the pregnancy. Please ensure you collect a pregnancy pack from our reception BEFORE your appointment with the midwife and look at the documentation to save time face to face. The midwife is available weekday mornings between 8.30 and 9.30am on 01342 316411.

A Training Practice
GP Registrars work as part of the team. GP Registrars are fully qualified doctors with at least 2 years experience of working in hospitals and who wish to specialise in general practice. GP Registrars have daily surgeries (often with longer appointment times), undertake home visits and help with on-call doctor duties. Their placements with us vary in length, depending on their stage of training, from 4 months to over 12 months. They are supervised and assessed on a regular basis. Patients may, on occasion, be asked whether they mind having their consultation videoed for assessment purposes and/or to complete patient satisfaction questionnaires.
Foundation Doctors are fully qualified doctors who are rotating around various specialities to increase their experience. Some of them may choose to go on to do further training to become a GP. Each Foundation Doctor will be with us for a 4 month placement. They will be closely supervised and assessed throughout their time with us. They will have longer appointment times.
Moatfield Surgery provides placements for medical students who are training to become doctors. Patients may be made aware of students sitting in with GPs, observing a surgery or may sometimes be asked if they mind being interviewed by a student as part of their training.
Patients of course have the right to decline in helping with assessment & training. However, we hope that most will feel happy to assist in the education and training of our future health professionals.
Moatfield Surgery provides the opportunity for gaining a recognised qualification through apprenticeship placement in office administration. This usually takes 12 months and involves practical work as well as theory. The apprentice is supervised by our Practice Manager.
Department of Health Connecting Programme
To understand the needs of patients and the pressures NHS staff face, every Department of Health civil servant will be expected to gain first hand experience of life in health or social care for at least 1 month every year.
A key recommendation in the Francis report was changing the culture of the department to make sure the needs of patients are always the first priority. As an important step, the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced in 2013 that he wants his staff to lead the way across Government, by gaining a personal understanding of life on the front line and using that experience to shape policies that serve patients and their families. Moatfield Surgery supports this programme by participating and placements are overseen by our Practice Manager. Link to DH site
All practices have a contractual obligation to publish the following for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients:The average pay for GPs working at Moatfield Surgery in the last financial year was £46,924 BEFORE tax and National Insurance. This is for 4 full time and 4 part time GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months. It should be noted that the prescribed method of calculation is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice and should not be used to form any judgement, nor to make any comparisons with any other practice.
